Dr. Rhys J. Yarns, OD, is a Board-Certified Optometrist at Northeastern Eye Institute who practices in our Scranton office location. Dr. Yarns specializes in post-operative evaluations and care for our cataract surgery patients. He conducts comprehensive eye exams along with diagnosing and managing various ocular diseases. He also performs soft contact lens fittings and evaluations.

Our Scranton office is home to our Ambulatory Surgical Center where we offer LASIK, cataract surgery, intraocular lens implants, and other eye surgeries to correct retina issues for patients in Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Hazleton, and other nearby areas in northeastern Pennsylvania.

Education

Dr. Yarns is a Penn State alum where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He then went to receive his Doctor of Optometry degree and became Board Certified during his time at Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University.

Dr. Yarns has completed several clinical externships, including a pediatrics externship with The Eye Institute, an externship with Mayfair Eye Associates focused on advanced disease/glaucoma, and an externship right here at Northeastern Eye Institute with Dr. Joseph Shovlin focused on primary care, advanced disease and specialty lenses. Additionally Dr. Yarns completed an externship focused on advanced disease and low vision with Wilkes-Barre Hospital and an optical clerkship with O’Hora Eye Care in Scranton, PA.

Dr. Yarns was born and raised in Scranton, PA, and graduated from the Abington Heights School District. He is thrilled to now be protecting and restoring vision for members of his home town and local community.
