Education

Dr. Boland received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgetown University, Washington, D.C.  He received his Doctor of Optometry and Bachelor of Science from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, Philadelphia, PA.  He was the 1998 Conforma Contact Lens Award of Excellence recipient in recognition of outstanding academic and clinical performance in contact lens practice.

Experience

From October 1998 through 2001, Dr. Boland was the Optometric Director of the Laser Center at Northeastern Eye Institute, where he specialized in the pre and post-op care of LASIK patients.

In 2002, Dr. Boland earned a fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry, with a concentration in contact lenses. He is board certified in Therapeutic Management of Ocular Disease including Glaucoma.

Research & Community

He is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Pennsylvania Optometric Association. Also a member of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Optometric Society, he served as Vice President from 2009 –2010 and as President from 2010 – 2011 and was named Optometrist of the Year by that organization in 2011. In 2019, he was voted “Best Optometrist in Northeastern Pennsylvania” by the Times-Tribune Readers’ Choice. He was also recognized by the American Optometric Association for 25 years of membership and dedicated support in 2020.

Personal

He has published articles in Contact Lens Spectrum, Optometric Management, Review of Optometry, and Review of Contact Lenses, for which he serves as an associate clinical editor. In 2001, he co-authored a chapter in the textbook LASIK: Clinical Co-Management.

Dr. Boland is the third generation of his family to practice eye care in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
